PHP Version 5.3

Postby gs121 » 07-28-2010 11:19 PM

Hi

I am currently running phpcart 4.6.4.

My host has advised me that they are upgrading to php3 and advised me to check that any scripts I am using will be compatible.

Please can you tell me if php cart will continue to work with php 3.

Many thanks.

Hello Graham,

I'm actually hoping that you meant php5 since php3 is very old. Most hosting companies have been moving from php4 to php5 over the last year.

The 4.6 version of phpCart is fully compatible with php5. You will not know the difference that it's in the background!

Cheers,

Sorry Dennis

Thank you for your prompt reply.

It was early in the morning here when I wrote the question it should have said upgrading from php 5.2 to php 5.3.

I assume that will be OK?

Hi Graham,

Checking the 5.3 tree does show some significant changes in the code. But I don't see anything that jumps out at me that would break the software.

I've not yet tested it and not sure if George has yet. I'll check with him right away. And we'll see if we can find a 5.3 server to try it ourselves.

When is your hosting company making the switch?

They have asked you to test the script, did they provide a testing server? Or a mechanism to run php 5.3 instead of php 5.2?

Often times, hosting companies will change the suffix to allow you to run in parallel. Something like .php53 instead of just .php.

If a 5.3 server is available for testing, give it a try...

Thanks,

Dennis

HI Dennis

They are changing this weekend and unfortunately have not made available a facility to test if this will work.

Please let me know if you are able to test.

Many thanks.

Hi Graham,

Spoke with George and he has run phpSuperCart with php V5.3 without problem. The coding techniques are similar between the two products so we don't think that you'll run into any problems with phpCart when your switchover is made.

And rest assured that we'll be here to support you in any case!

Cheers,

Dennis

Thank you Dennis.

And can I say it is so nice that the support has improved out of all recognition.

I know George has been busy but it did get to the stage where I was considering changing carts but now I am considering phpsupercart for another project I am about to commence.

Thanks again

Regards

Thanks Graham, we're trying!

Both on the customer support side and on the development side!

We'll also be releasing a new version of phpSuperCart very soon... we're in the final stages and may even do a small beta testing program (starting this weekend, if I can wrap up some final documentation today). It has lots of new, exciting features!

It would be great if you could use phpSuperCart for your new project!!
