Can I have a free event or no balance due?

At times I offer codes for a free event. I would like to be able to have people redirected without going through a payment requirement. So could there be a payment gateway that was "no balance due" and rather than saying that you need to pay, it says thanks. It's confusing for people who don't owe money to go through a payment checkout. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Just to understand more fully, do you offer the "free events" by using coupons in the cart?

Would it just be easier to just create a link or a button not in the cart? Just an off-the-head inquiry?
